Specific Area Treatments: Cabin Floor & Wing Spar Covers
Floors are often one of the noisiest areas in an aircraft due to their proximity to the firewall, nose wheel well and wing spar. Damping and possibly barriers can make a big difference to the overall noise level. Additionally, a soft floor can help make for much greater comfort for feet on those long cross country flights.
This is a rough guide of acoustic treatments for the cabin floor and wing spar covers of a typical light aircraft. The actual results may differ from aircraft to aircraft since this by necessity must be a generalization of typical noise path and vibration common to most light aircraft. Some aircraft may be limited by space, clearances, internal volume, and contact with the pilot and passengers that therefore must be taken into account
Level 3 provides basic coverage and Level 1 offers the most insulation.
Acoustic Level 1 Treatment:
- 1. Dampers on underside of floors.
- 2. 1/4" or 1/8" felt with barrier on top of floors.
- 3. Carpet over for comfort, appearance, and acoustics.
Acoustic Level 2 Treatment:
- 1. 1/4" or 1/8" felt with barrier on top of floors.
- 2. Carpet over for comfort, appearance, and acoustics.
Acoustic Level 3 Treatment:
- 1. 1/4" or 1/8" foam with barrier on top of floors.
- 2. Carpet over for comfort, appearance, and acoustics.
